Adult Learners
We are thrilled to share that 14 adults in the Berlin area of Honduras have said “yes” to an incredible opportunity—to learn to read and write. Of these, nine are beginning at a first-grade level and five are stepping in at a second-grade level. Each one represents courage, determination, and hope for a brighter future.
When we first began offering child sponsorships for 76 children in Sambo Creek, Berlin, and the surrounding villages, the response was overwhelming. While the financial support for education has been a tremendous blessing, something even more powerful has taken root. These children, their families, and their entire community feel seen, valued, and cared for by Family Life Church and others who have come alongside them.
Because of this encouragement, more children than ever are working harder in school—raising their grades and striving for the opportunity to be sponsored next year. The impact has gone far beyond what we imagined.
Now, that same excitement has spread to the adults in the community—many of whom never had the chance to attend school as children. When we introduced the Adult Learners Program, 14 adults eagerly signed up, ready to begin their own educational journey.
Thanks to the generosity of donors supporting the Honduras Family/Literacy Fund, we were able to provide all the essential supplies these new learners need, including beginner reading books, notebooks, pens, pencils, and more.
Their teacher, Jorge Perez, brings both skill and compassion to the classroom. With patience and dedication, he is leading classes three times a week over the course of seven months. As the program progresses, he hopes to incorporate basic math skills as well, further equipping these learners for everyday life.
This is more than a literacy program—it’s a story of transformation, dignity, and opportunity.
